Dandelions

Dandelions

Dream! Dream you

In the meadows and the fields!

Feel the winds of change

Pushing at your napes,

But stay tethered until you

Have enough faith–

Until a child’s breath guides you all and

You get carried away.

What is it you fear more–

The danger of not knowing

What comes next, or

The thought of all the things

You could be?

You are chattering teeth

In the mouth of a cowardly lion

An obstinate collection of weeds

In the garden of a reality

That’s constantly moving,

Moving around you when

It could be moving through you

If it weren’t for the chattering,

That fantastic chattering that makes

Action so much harder than

The safety of your wishing.

But, oh! Think of what you will achieve!

When at last you break away;

When at last it’s your time to fly and

You come parachuting down

Into this wondrous life!

You could bring a brilliant gold

To the Earth’s marvelous mane.

You could make any person happy

By simply carrying their name.

So, sit not in silence much longer

You fathomless florets of unbridled potential

In hopes for some gust to motivate

The world does not wait so instead

Have the courage to blow it away..

  1. Tell me about it. Wait, you have been…nonstop for the past 24 hours.

    Jokes.
Good writing, as always. Keep posting, please.

  2. Lovely images and well sustained. I kept thinking of my granddaughter (almost 3) who loves to pick dandelion flowers before they becomes the fluff balls of seeds. (And I kept thinking of my jaded adult self thinking, “Good. I don’t want anymore dandelions in my lawn.) This helped me remember the pleasure of blowing them.
